Advice

Films and Bromides

  • Check all pics are showing ‘OK’ in picture usage.
  • Do not use‘hairline’ rules, minimum should be .25pt.
  • Create three folders for your work; documents, pictures, fonts.
  • Use CMYK images not RGB or Indexed Colour for print work.
  • Avoid PICT files.
  • Maximum film & bromide sizes; 395 x 558, 652 x 558, 305 by any length.
  • Use Type-one fonts (from a good library if possible,) in preference over Truetype.
  • Check that spot colours are consistently named.
  • Check white type on any background is on ‘knockout’ in trap information.
  • Remember to create paths for any image that has no background and is brought into a Quark picture box which is coloured ‘none’.
  • Avoid font problems in your EPS files (Illustrator, Freehand) by converting text to paths/outlines.
  • ALWAYS run out composite and separated postscript proofs before sending the job to us to output film – this is the most important but most ignored advice. It will show you whether your job separates properly and will show us exactly what output you expect.
